The blossoms of blue
Smile wistfully at my face-
It’s like they feel too
The melancholy
And the numb, forlorn feeling
In blue shades and hues
The flowers whisper
you remember, remember,
tears in December
I hold the blossoms
Cerulean tinting my heart
I mourn my lover
The blooms weep with me
As we remember his plea
Love, “forget-me-not”.

Background
According to a mediaeval legend about the plant, a knight picked a bouquet of beautiful blue flowers along the riverside for his beloved, but tragically, fell into the water and drowned because of the weight of his armour. Before he drowned, he quickly threw the flowers to his maiden and shouted: “Forget me not!”. The poem is written from the POV of the girl who reminisces her lover, the forget-me-not serving as a symbol of remembrance and eternal love.
