“Trust me” they said,
And I believed those words.
Gave pieces of my heart
When they needed some love from this world.
“Trust me”, they said,
And I believed those words.
Started grasping for the truth in the lies that they told.
It dawned on me too late
That trust is earned, not demanded.
Never did I think such a thing
Could leave me so hurt and stranded.
“Trust me”, they said,
But I’ve come to see it as mere rhetoric,
A hollow saying that masks their face
Because they prey on the naïve ones,
And you’re a fool if you believe in such a shallow phrase.
I have been a fool not once, not twice, but a million times
Giving too much to people, getting nothing back,
Thinking it is okay, it is just fine.
I guess I am just too naïve for my own good,
I guess I am easy prey, someone easy to betray,
“Trust me”, they said,
and I trusted,
and even after all that time, I still do,
because I am,
and will always be the fool.
